About Us
Sharing the tales of our adventures together while travelling the world.
One ride, one place, one conversation at the time, connecting with places beyond a passing glance, and feeling at home wherever we go.
The Way We Travel Story
Welcome to The Way We Travel. We’re Gianluca and Tania (or G&T, a nod to the drink that fuels our London life). We are glad you found our corner of the internet and we hope it inspires your next adventure.
Our duo consists of a Portuguese-South African (Tania) and an Italian (Gianluca) living in London. It may be the perfect introduction to a joke but, admittedly, it also sounds pretty cool and highlights so well the fact that we are citizens of the world. Being together since 2018 (it even snowed on our first date…), we started travelling and have no intention to stop. In the eyes of our friends, we’re the “cool couple going to strange places” and are always travelling around. In our view, a weekend to Latvia and a trip to Uzbekistan, could respectively be the perfect romantic getaway and a culturally-enriching experience, so we don’t necessarily agree with the definitions…
We feel privileged to call Italy, Portugal and South Africa home. And while we often complain about UK’s gloomy weather, we still enjoy living in London.
Between us, we’ve visited over 43 countries, yet it feels like we’re just getting started.
The Way We Travel documents our adventures, with the aim of helping you plan your own. But we are not a travel agent. What you find here are our personal experiences, tips, detailed guides, captivating stories and photos, uncovering the good, but also the bad and the ugly from our time on the road.
We like boutique hotels, local food, culture, lesser-known destinations and authentic experiences. We also value slow, comfortable travel when possible, always trying to balance avoiding FOMO with truly enjoying the places in front of us.
If that sounds like your kind of travel, you’re in the right place.
Happy reading!

Tania
Hello! This is Tania! Portuguese South African with big passion for travelling, fitness, good food and positive thinking!
Tania is the planner. Nothing is left to chance in life as meticulous preparation equates to positive outcomes. Except when she deals with travelling, where full-on spontaneity takes over (thankfully her other half compensates for this).
Born and raised in South Africa, her life has been full of exciting adventures. At the time when most kids go to Disneyland, Tania was embarking on big family trips to the bush. South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Mozambique almost became an extension of her garden. The discomfort of untamed safaris, camping in the savanna surrounded by wildlife, brought countless exciting stories.
And then there is Portugal, the land of her heritage, with all its yummy food, sunny shores and rich culture which she visited almost every year since a very young age.
Currently settled in London with Gianluca and their wonderful baby boy, the city has become the springboard for their travels. Their expanding family has brought challenges (and joys) when planning travels and they wouldn’t have it any other way! Bringing enthusiasm and pragmatism to The Way We Travel, while selecting (and curating) all the best restaurants and hotels!

Gianluca
While being the disorganized half, he is the one planning most of their travels, so you are in safe hands. Well, maybe travelling with his mates through the middle of nowhere in Mexico in a broken car accompanied by a very questionable driver, wasn’t exactly planned though…
Coming from a picturesque costal town in Italy there has been a good dose of “dolce vita” throughout his life. But while there is no place like home and no substitute for the “beach-sun-good food-pretty village” combo, he feels there is nothing more exciting than exploring this big beautiful world.
The passion for travelling started at a young age. He vividly remembers his first trip abroad (London) at six and his first transatlantic holiday to New York at fourteen. Much has happened since the good old days, including living in the Netherlands and China, and various exciting trips across Europe, Asia and America, before settling in London. After meeting Tania, his heart had new priorities, yet he was glad they shared the same calling for adventure.
Passionate about art, culture, food and photography, he is definitely the fanciful voice of “The Way We Travel”. But as Dostoevsky’s quote “beauty will save the world”, he hopes to bring captivating storytelling and exciting photography to inspire your next adventure.
